Alg 4-1
Algebra
Lesson 4-1
Vocabulary: The y-axis is a vertical number line.
x-axis is the horizontal number line running horizontal
Origin is where the x-axis and y-axis meat at zero
When you draw a dot for an order pair you are graphing
Quadrants are what separate the x-axis and y-axis into four parts
X-Coordinate is the first number in an ordered pair
Y-Coordinate is the second number in an ordered pair.

Examples:
Point A is plotted on (-4,4) in the second quadrant.
Point E is plotted on (1,3) in the first quadrant.
Point H is plotted on (-2,-2) in the third quadrant.
Point J is plotted on (2,-3) in the fourth quadrant.

More Vocab
Quardnet plane- The graph that quardnets are graphed on, it consists of an x-axis, y-axis, and origin.

Additional Information: Some scientists use the Coordinate plane to grid maps of exploration sites such as an archaeologist dig, exploring underwater, and making charts. This way they can know the location of the objects they are studying.

The quadrants are labeled 1-4 as shown in the picture. Points plotted in quadrant 1 are (+,+). Points in quadrant 2 are (-,+). Points in quadrant 3 are (-,-). Points in quadrant 4 are (+,-).
