1. Solve |a-7|= 15                
            a-7 = 15                         a - 7 = -15
             +7     +7                           +7      +7
                 a=22                                a= -8
The solution set is {-8,22}
On the graph, the points are not connected because they are isolated points.
3. Solve |- 4= 7 and graph the solution set.       

        a-4=7            a-4=-7

         +4 +4            +4 +4

           a=11             a=-3

The solution set is {-3,11}

On the graph, the points are not connected because they are isolated points.

4. Solve |6s - 9| < 3 and graph the solution set.

     6s - 9< 3          6s - 9 > -3

         +9   +9           +9     +9

          6s12         6s > 6

           6      6          6     6

           s < 2            s > 1        

5. Write and Solve an absolute value inequality using the following information:
Jenna and Maggie are competing in a watermelon seed spitting contest. They try to get their seed as close

to 36 inches as possible. If their seed is within 5 inches of the 36 inches, they can have another turn to

score more points. What is the range of inches which they can have another turn?

  -Your equation will be |x-36| < 5

              x-36 < 5              x-36 > -5

               +36   +36            +36   +36

                  x < 41                 x > 31

The range is 31 to 41 inches.

There are only three types of open sentences that can involve absolute value:
|y| = x         |y|< n          |y|>n
